Overview
My role was to plan and develop a seperate software service for my team, as well as contributing to the daily agile work. This included joining daily meetings, sprint retrospectives, presenting the work, as well as working on my own project constantly.
Skills
I learnt new skills, as well as developed my existing skills. Both technical skills, which included programming languages, database management systems as well as deployment of a service, and soft skills such as communication, taking on responsibility and ownership of a product, time management and building discipline were skills I have learnt and developed.
Responsibilities
Yes, as I was responsible for building a service on my own, I was responsible for it's completion on my own. I had the help of my team, especially from my onboarding buddy, but the project was my own full responsibility.
Support & Guidance
I received constant support from my manager, team and my onboarding buddy. They provided me with just enough guidance to be able to get things done smoothly, but still facing challenges on my own and learning things by myself.
Culture
The company culture was good, however most of my interactions were limited to my team. Working with my team was great, the atmosphere was very open and laid back, the company culture was pretty normal.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my internship a lot, though it was quite exhausting. I learnt a huge amount of new things, and developed my skills on a level which I would not be able to achieve if I were to try to learn things by myself. The internship was honestly very fun and a great experience.
Yes
While I don't have much to say about the rest of the application process, I would recommend people doing technical interviews to focus on communication and "the road" instead of "the destination". Communication is key and goes a long way.
