Overview
- Daily tasks varied. This included drafting contracts, attending client meetings, taking minutes, reviewing contracts and proactively meeting with colleagues. - Interacted with team members across all levels of seniority. - Responsibilities included time management, ensuring work was completed to a high standard and finding work to do when there was a quiet patch.
Skills
Yes. Developed my attention to detail, time management, people skills (EQ) and ability to be proactive. A new skill I developed was legal research.
Business Insight
During the first week (induction), we heard from the leaders of the firm about the firm's vision, challenges, opportunities and history. It was great to learn about the business's different aspects, e.g., MBD, recruitment, legal tech, people groups and social aspects. It was very eye-opening to learn about the structure of a law firm in such depth, this early in our career.
Culture
The culture was surprisingly informal, non-institutional and non-hierarchical, for such a large company. Standards were high, and there was an atmosphere which encouraged hard work, but everyone was friendly, open and willing the interns to succeed.
Your Impressions
Thoroughly enjoyable - other than the work, there were great networking and social opportunities, which made it that much more fun!
Yes
- research the firm - be yourself, not someone you think the firm wants you to be - think about your transferable skills - understand the market DLA operates in
