Overview
As a Technology Project Coordinator, I worked directly with TATA Steel in the delivery chapter where we dealt with requests for service. I led my own project where I supervised, monitored progress, and maintained a positive relationship with TATA Steel. I learned how to use Power.bi and Excel together to visualise data which was formatted into the weekly report.
Skills
I learned how to use Power.bi as well as improved Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills. My negotiation and patience skills also improved as I dealt directly with the customer on a daily basis. My communication and confidence have also grown and I am now able to lead meetings with senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities
In the beginning, I was given a lot of responsibility and was guided through the project by my whole team who were very supportive. I also had the opportunity to talk directly with both TATA Steel and Deloitte and take the lead in meetings.
Support & Guidance
My Line Manager was a great support and we had many 1-2-1s where he mentored and guided me through my work, and also gave me tips on how to make the most of my placement. Additionally, the Youth Team at Vodafone was very supportive and held monthly meetings to check in and give us any updates.
Culture
Vodafone is a great company that makes sure they look after their employees. The youth team also held many socials and events to ensure we could network with like-minded people. The atmosphere within the Paddington office was great as you could easily talk with others and ask for help.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed my placement and made many connections. I had the opportunity to socialise and make many friends while also working hard on my own projects. My team was also very supportive and included me in many meetings to make me feel like a regular member of the team.
Yes
Go in with an open mind and take advantage of all the other charity and society events Vodafone holds. Also, talk to as many people as you can and stretch into other teams if possible.
