Overview
Worked in a team going out on boats collecting photos of whales and dolphins, then comparing the fins to database already gathered to ascertain whether the Fin had been tied to an individual we had seen before. Also assisted with beach cleans & public awareness in addition to land surveys examining the number and type of boats in the water around harbours in Puerto Colon
Skills
Improved Spanish, boat working skills, data collection methods, teamworking, species ID, megafauna ecology improved.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities included ensuring equipment was set up and in good working order, responsibilities over ensuring Fin ID was completed by the end of the day, had chores to undertake, had presentations to give and social nights to organise
Support & Guidance
Lots, from pre-departure checks to in field assistance with daily tasks to confirmation if unsure about duties being performed.
Culture
Warm and amiable, in a goldilocks zone between being professional and hardworking and jovial and inclusive.

A lot. Had our ups and downs but ultimately loved the experience and would love to got back again one day
Yes
DO IT. Go to Tenerife for some hands on experience in surveying whale populations and other marine megafauna. You will not regret it.
