Overview
- provided stabilisation sessions for refugees and asylum seekers with PTSD, helped with practical issues for patients - shadowed assessments and was responsible for conducting service measures - responsible for patient communication and handling patient files
Skills
yes - i was able to work on my clinical skills and how to conduct clinical sessions. have been able to understand how psychology is used in public services and how to conduct and tailor psychological services for individual patient needs. i was able to develop my communication and people skills, and develop my psychological understanding around PTSD
Responsibilities
yes, was responsible for my own case load of patients and handling their social and practical needs. was also responsible for patient communication and responsible for patient communications (letters)
Support & Guidance
had weekly supervision sessions with supervisor which supported me in my personal devleopment and what i can improve to provide the best care for patients
Culture
the team was very friendly and welcoming and they valued the contributions and work that i was doing despite being a placement student. felt that i was supported and could seek advice from any team member and they were respectful of my role
Your Impressions
i found this placement to be super beneficial for my career development and because i enjoyed the placement so much, it has driven me to want to pursue clinical training
Yes
read the job description well and be wary that the nature of the patient group means that it can be difficult. however the team is so supportive and there is sufficient training and guidance with how to cope with the workload
