Overview
Daily email checks, preparation of payments and cheques, keeping excels up to date
Skills
Developed my communication skills where I had to interact with a lot of new people. Became more open minded as I had to listen to other people's point of views/way of working. Became more pro active to situations where there was an issue
Responsibilities
In the Finance department yes. I had to regularly check my emails and update excel sheets. I also had prepare cheques and prepare monthly end payments to suppliers. Moreover, I was given a reconciliation to do on my own and had to meet the deadline set by my Senior Manager
Support & Guidance
I had very good colleagues that were always here to help me. They had their own work to do but would ask me if everything was okay and if I needed help. They also (including my senior manager) were always very keen and patient with me when I asked for help
Culture
The teams were always hard working and looking to finish their job a week before the deadline. They would keep the last week as a review week and make sure everything was correctly done. However, in the finance department it was a bit toxic as the manager was putting unnecessary pressure on the workers.
Your Impressions
I really did enjoy the first half of my placement. However, after changing department and moving into the audit department, I felt like I was neglected by my managers. Whenever, I asked for work, they would give me work that could be done in less than an hour. Therefore, at times I would find myself just sitting around without any work even if I asked for more.
Yes
Do not let others step on you. Keep asking for work even if you feel like you are bothering them. It leaves a good impression of you!
