Overview
The program consisted of informative lectures and hands-on workshops pertaining to machine learning topics, finance and statistics, as well as an introduction to the paths and day-to-day of working in a financial institution.
Skills
I learned a lot of context and overhead for working in the finance world (I come from a physics background and have never done finance before), and was able to improve my machine learning skills through their tailored workshops.
Business Insight
I felt like there were plenty of avenues available for any individual with a drive to succeed and a STEM background - the different roles cater to many different types of work styles and personalities and all offer exciting and challenging problems to investigate.
Culture
People were sociable and excited to bring new talent into the fray. People were close-lipped about protected institute material but were otherwise very open to discuss any details they were able to, as well as in-depth details of the day-to-day. Everyone there seems to love their job and is excited about the work they get to do.
Your Impressions
I thought it was an amazing way to dip a toe into the finance world and be introduced to many of the concepts that I felt uncertain about (but unsure how to ask about being educated about them, so they did an excellent job at anticipating my needs and catering to them), as well as met many amazing people I continue to connect with today.
Yes
Don't be afraid to ask questions and take advantage of this opportunity! They are as excited to meet you as you are to meet them and no question is foolish!
