Skills
For me, the skills I developed was working for longer. I had become to a student schedule with free periods and so it was useful for me to get a glimpse into the working hours of a lawyer and realise that I could do it well. I also further developed my skills in communication. Partners and all lawyers had a very open door policy, making it great in getting to know them and their career journey, as well as being able to ask questions on the law and practical tasks of a lawyer. I learnt so much and felt so encouraged and respected.
Business Insight
DLA have an excellent intranet and very insightful podcast, vlogs and zoom calls occurring almost daily. One zoom call that stood out to me was the “Path to Partnership”. Another was a zoom call celebrating Carers Week and sharing individuals experiences in the firm with carrying out their caring responsibilities and career responsibilities. All of this was comforting - many roles are available to me in any sector I choose; I can still achieve them roles with my personal circumstances; and from day one, I was empowered and enabled to learn about my path to Partnership. Overall, DLA offered an inclusive and encouraging environment, where it was very easy and enjoyable to learn and grow.
Culture
Genuine. Truly friendly. Immensely supportive. Exemplary. Uplifting. Filled with opportunities. Hard working. Respectful. And again, kind above all else.
