Overview
I was an engineer within the Global Buying tools division. I was given tasks on the in house applications, like adding features and fixing bugs. I also worked on the APIs and did testing
Skills
I learnt how a business runs using the scaled agile framework. I also learnt C#, Blazor and the .NET framework in general. I also developed a practical application of my coding skills
Responsibilities
I wasn't given many big tasks but there were a couple. One that stood out was trying to replace a software library with another one. Overall, it was mainly low risk, low responsibility tasks
Support & Guidance
I started in a team where support wasn't great as they were too busy and based in America. When I moved teams however, support was great. I had a dedicated 1 on 1 mentor who would take the time to explain things to me and help me whenever I needed.
Culture
The culture was very pleasant. Everyone was extremely friendly and was encouraged to reach out to anyone we liked. I never felt uncomfortable reaching out to someone high ranking. There were also plenty of social events that were very fun, especially Red Nose Day. Everyone in the office was friendly and there were many pub trips
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement overall. I was unfortunately put into a team that wasn't right for me at the beginning, however upon request, they moved me to a team that was a much better fit. I met some lovely people and made some great friends. I've gained incredible industry experience in not only IT but also retail and such a large company.
Yes
Be nice, be friendly. I'm pretty sure that's one of the hiring requirements because I didn't meet a single nasty person
