Overview
On a day-to-day basis I would manage inventory that was dedicated to me. I had around 80 car parts which I had to check for any problems occurring on the shop floor from these parts. This could often lead to the need for quick problem solving if inventory was running short. I also was the daily contact for about 20 supplier so I would have to answer there requests and needs.
Skills
I have learnt how to problem solve in stressful situations due to the high amount of abnormality that occurs within the role. I am also a lot more confident as a person and also when it comes down to presenting. I have also significantly developed my Excel skills and this was a programme we used a lot.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility with inventory management because if I didn't manage my inventory correctly I could potentially stop the plant from running due to Toyota's 'just-in-time- production system. I was also the face of the company for many suppliers as I had 20 supplier that would contact me if they had a question, request or problem.
Support & Guidance
There was a lot of support during my placement as there was a cohort of 11 placement students who would see each other quite regularly to take part in course or general check-ups from the Learning & Development department.
Culture
There was a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere from the very start of my placement which continued through the year. People we always very willing to support and answer any questions I had.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement and I am considering returning when I finish university.
