Overview
Processing patient samples, reading previous days Agar plates to look for significant bacterial growth. To perform antibiotic sensitivity testing and report results.
Skills
Many, how to process samples, booking in, using the LIMS system, how to safely handle samples. Learning processes and analysers. Reading bacteria morphology, understanding antibiotics.
Responsibilities
Yes, once confident I would be given responsibility for a job. A biomedical scientist would just watch over me and make sure I was competent.
Support & Guidance
I had a training officer in microbiology and an overall training lead. I would have weekly 1 to 1 meetings and weekly group tutorials. I also had a contact from the university I could use.
