The Role
The atmosphere of the office and culture is very friendly and people are willing to help. Much of the work is challenging - particularly when the basic requirements (on excel and using data sources) have been met the opportunity for analytical work has made the experience more enjoyable. However, the work can be quite repetitive - particularly nearing the end of the placement.
As a research assistant I felt the analysts rely on you a great deal to produce data and charts for them - this feeds into important presentations.
If I had any questions my manager was more than willing to answer them however I felt I didn't recieve enough feedback.
Most of the time I was very busy - this resulted in some very long hours in some cases.
I had a fair amount of responsibility from the start - set out through specific tasks. As the year progressed I was relied on more for other things and analysts were more confident in the accuracy of my output.
This year has given me an invaluable insight into, not only the bank, but the financial markets and macro economy.
The Company
The atmosphere is fairly lively relative to other experiences I have heard of. Everyone is very approachable and generally happy to chat.
Everything seemed to be organised very well and, when there were issues, they were sorted fairly quickly through HR.
As well as formal training people were always willing to spare their time to help me.

I will definitely be applying through the graduate scheme
The Culture
The Bank encouraged us to socialise with others on our intake from the very beginning. However there wasn't much socialisation outside of work within my team.
As with most places in London, it's not cheap.
I go out to bars at least once a week
There are sports team / women in the bank / LBGT organisations we all had the option to join.
