    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The insight day was partly online and partly in person. We had a few days initially learning about different branches of the firm online over zoom and then the latter half of the week we were invited to the office in London and buddied up with an employee at the firm. Day to day we went to meetings with our buddy and we did a role-play of the day in the life of our buddy. This consisted of working on fictional cases to really understand the role of someone in audit.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new skills, particularly how to research for a presentation that is on a topic that I am unfamiliar with. We were given the task of researching developments in this audit division, and presenting the direction that audit is heading in the future. Part of this research required us to predict future trends and I learnt resources that I should utilise when looking to predict future events. I also developed my presenting skills as I presented infront of a group.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • The introductory talks at the beginning of the week were very beneficial as you got to hear from a range of employees from different divisions and were able to learn about the business and what schemes were in place so that we knew where to apply for future roles . Additionally, my buddy was extremely useful during my time at PWC. I expressed that I was interested in another role in addition to audit and they arranged a meeting with someone from that division so that I could speak to one of the team members and get a real understanding of their job.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The general atmosphere was very friendly. Staff had lunch together and were friends outside of the workplace. People went for a drink after work and seemed in high spirits around the office. Due to the nature of PWC offices using the hot seating method, it is very open and friendly and people move about throughout the day. The canteen could do with more seating however so that larger groups could sit next to each other. PWC offers after-work groups such ads running, and hockey which helps to foster a positive work culture.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I did enjoy the insight because everyone was very friendly and the offices are lovely. However, I would not apply to the division that I interned in as it is a very small division and the team is one of the smaller ones in PWC. I liked the varied nature of the insight in that it was both virtual and in person which made it easy to attend everything and also reflexted the hybrid working that PWC has adopted in the workplace.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • When applying make sure to research the division you are applying to. Know about what the day to day of that role includes and it's good to consider what you want your future life to look like. For example are you looking for a fast paced high stress environment or do you want a slower paced work life. Research what the firm has worked on recently and why that is interesting to you and how real-world events can be applied to your future role at PWC. Smile in the interview!
