Overview
Representing the university at events and on open days. This could be by delivering campus tours or assisting with a school visiting campus. I have to be approachable and able to answer questions about the university and higher education to help students to make an informed choice about their own education.
Skills
Communication is a big skill I’ve developed as I’ve had to speak to large groups at once. This has also helped to gain confidence in public speaking.
Responsibilities
I have been responsible for groups of 10 children during campus tours sometimes but beyond that not much. Most of the organisation and planning is done by others. It would be nice to have students more involved with the planning of these events.
Support & Guidance
Not much. For all events we turn up and find out what we’re doing just before doing it. It would be beneficial to receive the brief prior to the event so we can better prepare for the event rather than being thrown in the deep end.
Culture
The students I work with have a positive attitude which is great. The online booking system isn’t the best as there isn’t the opportunity to swap shifts with other students even if both parties agree as the person in charge of booking the shifts doesn’t allow this. This means some shifts go unfilled when they could have been booked.
Your Impressions
It’s good as the shifts allow for flexibility around the studies.
Yes
Be friendly and approachable to ensure you give a positive environment.
