    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Majority of my work was admin based. I was able to shadow some in-person visits. I would complete telephone memory screenings with carers, was responsible for admin around monthly memory team meetings. Completed a chronology. A lot of admin around note taking from shadow visits and screenings. Shadowing visits with the PBS team and assisting with completing assessments and questionnaires for careers.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot of clinically used lingo. I learned how to work in a Multidisciplinary team. I learned how to write clinical notes and complete observation visits. I learned the risk assessments and safeguarding and other legal framework around my work. I learned how to engage with adults with Learning Disabilities and their carers. I learned how to complete several assessments and questionnaires. I learned about a diagnosis process for dementia.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility in the tasks which were a lot of organisational tasks and admin tasks. I was not given responsibility in any clinical tasks and was promised I would be able to complete assessments on my own, but the service has not fulfilled their promise.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Not sufficient. I had weekly supervisions but they served more as case management. I had to ask for support in the middle of my placement experiencing severe burnout and was then scored down on my feedback form at the end of my year with an explanation that “I needed a lot of support” to complete those tasks when I believe that support should have been there in the first place.

  • 1/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • In one of the teams there was a lot of conflict and I have got caught up in the middle of it as two sides of the conflict kept gossiping about the other. There was a lot of stress and burnout in the team and I kept hearing a lot of very difficult things the staff were dealing with.
