Overview
My role was to complete required training associated with the targets needed to be achieved for a Biomedical Scientist. Alongside the completion of an IBMS portfolio.
Skills
From previous experience, I have acquired many skills however, having completed this placement year helped me develop these skills such as communication, teamwork etc. I have also developed skills such as analytical, observational and leadership skills.
Responsibilities
I was given many responsibilities during my placement year. This included performing certain tests and preparations after given the appropriate training for competency.
Support & Guidance
My training officer and all staff members working besides me, actively helped and supported my journey throughout my placement. This not only boosted my confidence but also enabled me to trust them with any problems that may have occurred.
Culture
As my placement was situated in a medical environment, I expected to see and come across many health care professionals. It was multi cultural and a very welcoming environment.
Your Impressions
With any placement or new job, the feeling of being overwhelmed is natural. This occasionally did affect the way I engaged and actually enjoyed the placement. However once I started to engage and communicate with my peers, it made my time more worth the while. I looked forward to going in everyday to meet my colleagues.
Yes
Take up the opportunity to apply to Essex as all the staff and students are very welcoming and supportive of your choices.
