    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My work placement at Vauxhall allowed me to experience a real job with real responsibilities, allowing me to make the most out of my year as possible.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team have made me feel very welcome and allowed me lots of opportunities to get to know then in and out of work. They are very approachable and freindly so asking questions or for help is never an issue.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given just the right amount of support to do the job at a high quality but given the opportunity to take things on with higher levels of responsibility with little support. Throwing me in at the deep end truely allowed me to make the most out of these opportunities and learn as much as I could.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have never been bored throughout my year. There are times when I have alot of work and deadlines at one time but this allows you to learn how to effectively prioritise. I would hate to be sat at my desk with nothing to do!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given more responsibility than I ever imagined I would be able to manage but its done my confidence the world of good. I get to host meetings with senior management in all European divisions and am happy to do so.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Not only have I got to experience a real life job but I have been able to put in to practice the skills I have learnt in the first two years of my degree. For university purposes, final year will be ten million times easier. I have gained experience in my area of work before graduating and that will be worth the world when looking for a graduate job.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • People know when its appropriate to have a laugh and when its appropriate to be professional. Its the perfect balance.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Vauxhall places so much focus on their undergraduates that we are all very well looked after. The program is set up for the benefit of students and also of the company, the two work well together. I feel I know who to go to if I need help and having 100 other likeminded people around you all day, its a comfortable situation to be in.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We have had the opportunity to be trained in many computer based skills involving excel, word, powerpoint and access. There is extensive presentation skill practice and the availability o to access world wide systems. For example SAP training and use in the work place will be a skill to take to any company.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think opportunities are limited for a graduate job with Vauxhall. Due to the current climate their focus is not on employing graduates. I think this is something Vauxhall should look into.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is always something to do. Being with so many people allows you the opportunity to always find someone that wants to do the same as you! From sports clubs in the week, to nights out at the weekend to holidays with fellow collegues. Its been amazing.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Luton is generally quite cheap and close for communiting to London, but there is a need to get a taxi everywhere because you wouldnt travel round luton on your own!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Luton is okay, but being around so many other placement students means you will always see someone you know out. Close to London, St Albans, Milton Keynes and Watford. Endless opportunities!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Always opportunities to go on events with work including golf, bowling, meals out, comedy clubs. Plus anything you want to organise with fellow undergrads.

    4/5
