The Role
I really enjoyed both the work I was doing as well as the people that I worked with.
I was regularly thanked for the work I was doing and made felt appreciated.
My manager has given me the most support here at Vauxhall. She has been fantastic.
There are days where I have had more work than others, but overall there has been a perfect balance.
I never expected to be given such important tasks which are highly valued by all of the senior management in my department. It allowed me to interact with all levels of the business.
Most of the skills I have gained are transferable skills such as the use of Excel to an advanced level as well presentation skills and improving on my confidence.
The Company
There are days, such as the end of a month, where it is extremely tense due to the fear of not hitting targets however all the people I worked with made it really enjoyable and not once have I thought that I do not want to go to work in the morning.
In terms of organisation of the placement, I think Vauxhall have found the right balance of tailoring your development to the type of person in the role. I was given more and more responsibility the longer I was in my role.
I was given opportunities that I would never have expected such as sales training, which meant during that time I was not doing my day to day job but instead given insight into sales processes and opportunities to make sales as well.
Company Parties/Events
Based on your performance, there are high prospects of making a career at Vauxhall as they prefer to take on people who came through as undergrads once graduated as they already know the culture of the company. Although they may not have an official grad scheme every year, there are possibilities of coming back which have already been discussed with me.
The Culture
There are lots and lots of events throughout the year and as there are over 100 students, you can always be sure that there will be an event somewhere.
Although I lived on my own making it a lot more expensive than sharing, it didn't cost as much as I was expecting. Socialising was also fairly cheap.
In terms of location, with London just being down the road (practically), although there is limited nightlife in Luton, it's not the worst place to be. I think it's cheaper to be in Luton and travel into say Watford/London for a good night out .
There were lots of activities such as meals, cinema nights etc. I also went to Cardiff to watch the Rugby with some of my team.
