    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Standups in the mornings - usually several as I was working with several teams at once. Other agile ceremonies such as retros, ticket refinement, etc. Outside of scheduled meetings I was free to learn independently or shadow anyone that would have me.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Loads of new skills - brushed up on my languages as well as I personally leaned towards product owner skills which I had the freedom to explore as well.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I did work on a couple customer-facing tasks though most of the work I did that was used was ticket writing for software devs and user flows for devs and architects.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Loads of support from everyone, not just my direct manager. Everyone is keen to help you out and tell you anything you want to know, show you anything you want to see, etc. However there's no hand-holding so if you need or want support you have to ask for it - which is good for your development I think.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • In Manchester office everyone is very friendly, the office is beautiful. I've heard the Gaydon location is a bit more capital-c Corporate but Manchester is very Mancunian, for lack of a better phrase.

  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to JLR
  • Soft skills are very much needed as managers are paying attention to how well you're possibly going to mesh with the team, not just how good you are. Show off that you're a friendly team-player as well as your competence within your role.
