    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

    • Supporting staff in making sure all resources for groups were prepared and completing admin such as writing up notes after sessions. Engaging in training and assisting in delivering group sessions to children and parents. Setting up rooms so a therapeutic and trauma informed environment for children and parents. Supporting play therapy staff

    • yes I improved massively in confidence and organisational skills. I have developed skills in communication with children and their parents, and I have been able to improve and gain skills in de-escalating and managing behaviour in child groups. I have also learned what its like to work in a team.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

    • Yes I was responsible for making session notes, assisting and sometimes leading group sessions, managing case notes on a data management system that I had to learn to use, talking to parents about sessions and managing safe grading concerns in the appropriate way by going to the correct person and responding quickly.

    • I was offered fortnightly supervision sessions with my line manager and constant ability to reach out to any member of the team for support.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

    • Very positive and welcoming. they always helped me to learn and appreciated that that was why I was there. They were conscious of the fact that I was volunteering. Always happy to support me in things I was unsure of.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

    • I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at PACT. Volunteering was hard economically however the fulfilment from helping so many people was a huge benefit. And I loved the team I was in

    • Be open minded and try to remove any judgement when working with families. Don't be afraid to reach out for support when things get a bit hard.
