Overview
The first day was in person and involved meeting all other successful applicants, hearing from different Natwest Group employees to discover their career journeys and learn what inspired and shaped them to be working at the Natwest Group today. There was a networking lunch where you could speak to representatives from each internship pathway. There were then development sessions. The following day was online where we were put into groups to devise a solution to generating a childs version of the cancer card which is a Scottish scheme helping to support those and their loved ones who are battling with cancer. There was also a final session on how to perform our best at the assessment centre.
Skills
I definetly improved my networking skills as it was my first in person event where I did not know anyone prior to joining. In turn this helped to develop my confidence as I asked questions throughout the experience. I also valued the assessment centre skills session as that has helped me enormously other the past weeks as I have gone through real assessment centres. Overall, the experience helped me to improve, develop and learn multiple skills that are key in the workplace.
Business Insight
It was really insightful to be able to make an informed decision having learnt all about the different internships available, whilst hearing from multiple perspectives. One frustrating factor was that it was not made clear until very end of the programme about which internship positions were available in each location which one of the advertised programmes not being on the list and so this meant a last minute reshuffle for me when picking which internship programmes to apply for.
Culture
General atmosphere was very friendly and polite, this was especially demonstrated when I went into the wrong Natwest building and they were very kind to point me in the correct direction. The culture seemed very nice and supportive although it seemed to be discuising the fact that some of their workers work 7am-6pm and we were told that this would be rare/uncommon but hearing directly from the graduates they said it was their everyday norm.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the insigh programme. And I found it welcoming and supportive - especially how they were transparent with how many people were likely to be successful in converting this insight programme into an internship and then into a graduate position (a high percentage!) which was encouraging as often at such events they make you feel like you are just a line on a spread sheet and make it very difficult to feel included and worthy but Natwest did a great job of this. Therefore, I enjoyed the insight to a large extent.
Yes
First of all just go for it and apply! There is an initial application of just details and then there is a hub for the application activities which include a work scenario test, a numerical test and a recorded video interview. If successful, I then recieved a phone call to let me know and to inform me about the next steps which included discussing my personal logistics and ability to get to the London office on the required day.
