Overview
Day-to-day tasks involved regular meetings with my project mentor and manager, conducting market-based research, making presentations and putting together spreadsheets to help the clients understand our team's value. Everday was something different and I even got to visit the clients in-person.
Skills
I have definitely developed my time-management and communication skills. There were times when I was under pressure and pushed out of my comfort zone, so learning to deal with this by being organised and proactive were skills I developed. Networking was also a big component of the internship that I learnt to develop, by practising at social events and in the office. We were also given talks on networking and how to develop effective communication.
Responsibilities
I think I was given some responsibility; however, I do feel that I could have contributed more to the project I was on in the final couple of weeks.
Support & Guidance
I received a really good amount of support and guidance from my manager and mentor during the scheme. I always felt that I could ask them questions and chat with them if I didn't understand something fully. I was also grateful for all of the other people I reached out to who gave me their time to discuss their careers and what they like about Deloitte.
Culture
The atmosphere seemed very inclusive and healthy as a work environment. However, I don't think after 6 weeks there was really enough time to fully get a feel for the company culture.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship with Deloitte. It was such a great experience and has definitely given me more of an idea about what I want from my career. I would highly recommend the scheme to anyone interested in exploring consulting and working in a large business.
Yes
To be themselves and not worry if you don't have any prior experience with consulting or the service line you are going into. I had no idea what to expect from consulting but if you have an attitude to work hard and a willingness to engage with the program and all it has to offer, then I would definitely apply.
