The Role
Really enjoyed my placement- everyone was friendly and welcoming, and the company is very flexible on working hours which means you enjoy coming to work.
I was given a real role and within my team I helped out a lot so I feel like my colleagues did value the work and support that I provided.
Fantastic guidance, not only by my team/manager, but also by a team called 'Foundation' who oversee you on your placement and are there to support you for anything that is not related to your actual role.
Some days I was less busy, but I was given the opportunity to take on more responsibility and increase my workload.
I feel I was given quite a lot of responsibility which was great because it was good to know that the work you are doing is actually needed, and by having a lot of responsibility I could directly see that my manager's own workload was made slightly easier.
I feel I will not use some of the skills when I return to university, but only because the policies are those of the company's and also my role was quite specialized. But on the whole the personal skills that I have developed will stay with me for life, such as confidence, presentation skills and communication. IBM also have loads of courses you can take part in, and after doing an excel course I have greatly expanded my skills in this area and I feel this will be a skill that I take forward with me.
The Company
I worked with a brilliant team who were always cheerful and definitely made the working day feel much faster! We also took it in turns to bring cakes in which helped!
Set up was brilliant and I feel I was matched to my role perfectly. I had a very supportive team around me in my business unit but also had a team of personal development managers to oversee the placement.
We were encouraged to complete many of the online courses, as well as having training courses that were run in our location to help develop skills.

Working from home
I would love to come back and work at IBM, however I know that they do not offer Finance graduate positions, and as Finance is where I wish to work I do not feel that I would come back.
The Culture
There would be some kind of social at least once a week, varying from going for a quiet drink down the pub to birthday parties to nights out at the local clubs! Its all part of networking!
I didnt live in the area, I chose to commute so cannot comment on that. Nights out and socialising was cheap if you went out on a Student night.
Some great clubs but only about 5 so could get quite repetitive.
Regularly recieved emails detailing events and opportunities that were being organized. IBM were happy to let you take part in these inside of working hours without taking any holiday!
