Overview
Flexibility on a day-to-day basis. Possible tasks consist of work for supervisor, meeting with various lawyers for varying practice groups. Significant number of practice overviews and D&I and efficiency sessions.
Skills
Developed existing time management skills and professional/office etiquette. Capacity to develop law adjacent skills - for example review of documents, provision of advice, contract analysis.
Business Insight
Very insightful to learn about the business and the structure of law firms as a viable business. Also capacity for discovering legal roles, and other legal adjacent roles (for example in CreateIQ - the firm's internal AI company).
Culture
Very approachable general atmosphere and highly intelligent, yet humble, lawyers. Company is very inclusive on D&I front and very willing to make adjustments for staff where necessary. High sense of collegiality.
Your Impressions
Very enjoyable scheme overall - provided a great balance between engaging in work and with the firm generally. Fantastic for an international clerk and an invaluable opportunity.
Yes
Unlike to many Australian interviews - attempt to acquire a basic understanding of legal/commercial concepts prior to the competency interview. Dive in once commencing the insight (meeting with people, etc.) as the time disappears very quickly!
