Overview
Over the course of the scheme, I was involved in real client work for my principle and other lawyers in my seat. It was really helpful in enhancing my knowledge of commercial law. There were also some assessed tasks which were really interesting and thought provoking. The whole cohort was involved in a client pitch exercise which provided a great opportunity to understand the business of a law firm.
Skills
I was able to develop my time management skills throughout the scheme due to the need to balance a range of work responsibilities with social events. The client pitch was also vital in improving my presentation and collaboration skills. Finally, the sessions enhanced my commercial understanding about the different practices at Linklaters.
Business Insight
By networking with a range of the firm's representatives and attending sessions, I was able to understand the business of a law firm. These invaluable insights also improved my knowledge about career development and how a legal role develops from trainee solicitor to partner.
Culture
Linklaters was incredibly friendly and collegial. Everyone at the firm supported one another so they could reach their potential. The partners were always happy to chat and kept an open door policy which demonstrated the approachability of the people at Linklaters. It was clear that the solicitors were motivated to work and enjoyed the tasks that they were given.
Your Impressions
The vacation scheme was exceptional, it was really well organised and the tasks set were interesting. I enjoyed meeting everyone at the firm and hearing about their careers. The client pitch exercise was a highlight because it provided a fantastic opportunity to work in a team and improve my presentation skills. Overall, I would highly recommend the vacation scheme to anyone considering a career in law and at Linklaters.
