Overview
My role on a day-to-day basis can vary a lot depending on who I happen to be working with as I support multiple members across the Business Development team. For example, I may be working on competitive analysis for a few weeks and then move on to provide support to proposal planning. I also have a range of weekly tasks such as providing updated Business Metrics and Financial information for the company as well as notetaking on board meetings for new business.
Skills
I have definitely learnt lots of new skills that are not only useful in my current place of work but also are widely transferrable and applicable elsewhere. These abilities such as financial reporting and planning are integral to the function of the business and help build a great foundation of understanding as to how the business needs to operate to succeed.
Responsibilities
I was given an increasing amount of responsibility as my placement went on and my skills developed as my managers continued to challenge me more throughout. Furthermore, as I was the only placement student in the Business Development department, more responsibility was placed upon me to support multiple people and thus learn from them and their roles.
Support & Guidance
Support and guidance was always there as long as I reached out for help. I was always given and initial brief on a task that I was then expected to go away from and complete myself, however, support was always available if I was stuck or confused with what I was meant to be doing as long as I asked for it myself
Culture
The company culture is very relaxed and friendly and though I was intimidated by my more senior co-workers at first I quickly learned to appreciate that they are all very nice people. The company also has a very flexible work approach and plenty can be done from home online so there is little stress associated with long commutes
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement very much mainly due to the facts that all my co-workers were exceedingly friendly and supportive and that I was able to gain and develop a great skillset that is highly transferrable and that will serve me well in multiple aspects of life
Yes
Make sure you have a strong and diverse skillset backed by a variety of experience that matches up to the requirements of the job description as these will be the questions of focus in the interview as your interviewer will want to match your capabilities to the role
