Overview
Depends on the project you're involved with. But generally attending daily team meetings, troubleshooting/surveying out on site. Then working on writing up documentation, procedures or drafting up/eding P&IDs in the office.
Skills
I developed my communication and team working skills by working with a diverse, multidisciplinary team. Every day had new challenges and helped me improve my problem solving skills. I also learned about industry wide standards, particularly regarding safety.
Responsibilities
Not much at the start, but as the year progressed, the amount of responsibility increased and I was able to go out on site unsupervised and write up my own documentation which would then be reviewed by a senior process engineer.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from my colleagues, but as a whole it was limited from the organisation itself and from my mentor.
Culture
Due to recent circumstances regarding the green transition to the Electric Arc Furnace, the atmosphere has been pretty negative.
Your Impressions
The first few months were very slow but after that, I found the project I was working on, was meaningful and I enjoyed the increased responsibility. Everyone who works there is super friendly and helpful and it felt like we were all in it together. Just things could be slow sometimes
