Overview
a daily stand up meeting each morning followed by developing software alongside a team. these prototypes will then be demonstrated a various trade shows throughout the year
Skills
Yes I have learn C++ as a direct result of this placement I also feel that I have strongly developed my independent working and problem solving skills. I have also gained lots of experience in how to navigate a professional environment successfully.
Responsibilities
Yes I was given control of my own project that was a side section of the main product meant to work with it at trade shows. I was also given free reign to plan how I was going to design and develop this project.
Support & Guidance
the first one or two months were dedicated to an "onboarding" process to help get to grips with what I would be working with. The team I worked with were amazing and always willing to listen to and answer my many questions. and they tried to encourage me to come to my solutions on my own rather than just tell me what to do.
Culture
people at the office were extremely friendly and easy to approach. at this particular office the flexible hours are a bit awkward because there are so few people here in person which means the office is only open when the majority of people want to work so you can be a bit limited by that.
Your Impressions
I loved it. the work was intresting and enjoyable the people were lovely to work with my only complaint would be the circumstances of the office (it's size, location) which meant that certain thing that probably work in the larger offices don't translate so well. e.g flexible working hours, social/charity events. all in all though I would definatly recommend this to anyone looking for a good year in industry.
