The Role
I had an incredible year - although my job isn't exactly what I want to do moving forward in my career, I have really enjoyed it and it has taught me plenty of transferrable skills.
Working within a Western European role means that the team dynamic is different from what you may see in the UK. There are plenty of challenges found in working with people you very rarely meet face-to-face, but these challenges only help you grow as a candidate and broaden your experiences.
You are left alone in your role enough to figure things out for yourself, but there is plenty of support out there to be had if you ask for it.
My role took a while to fully ramp up, so I made myself busy by participating in other projects within the company and/or intern community.
I was given more and more responsibility as the year went on, but there is enough flexibility in the internship that you can ask for more if you want it. I was happy with the amount of responsibility I was given :)
I learnt incredible amounts, without being sat in a lecture, or even really realising - I can't describe how much I have enjoyed my year or how much I have gained from it, and if I could do it again I would in a heartbeat. Roll on the grad scheme!
The Company
Totally depends on what you put in - my team sat within Western Europe so I often didn't see them, but making friends with other teams in the office meant I was part of a great atmosphere!
So much is available to you if you look for it - for example Microsoft Office Exams, library resources, training offsites.

The Culture
Definitely have made friends for life :)
Living in central London is very expensive - but is definitely doable (with the help of your student loan!)
There is something for everyone in London - a year is not enough time to see it all!
Within Microsoft, plenty. Outside of Microsoft, even more!! There is so much to get involved in, you just need to look out for it.
