Overview
Using Finite Element tools, such as Ansys Mechanical, to determine mechanical factors, such as stress and displacements, of the designs we are testing. Role also includes writing up and presenting the findings to relevant colleagues.
Skills
Communication skills have been developed hugely, as you cannot be successful in your role without being verbal with your colleagues.
Responsibilities
It has grown throughout my year at Cummins. After the initial training, I was given tasks that had little importance and were relatively straightforward, but once I could prove that I was capable of more, I was trusted with important tasks and working a lot more independently.
Support & Guidance
A good amount. My line manager was very knowledgeable and more than happy to assist me with whatever problem I had. There was also my team manager and fellow (more experienced) colleagues who also gave me lots of guidance. Other departments which I needed from time-to-time (e.g., HR, IT) were easily accessible.
Culture
Company culture was strong, it was a relatively small branch where there was strong inter-team connections. Plenty of general work updates which I found very useful and the occasional social event (and free food!)
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it greatly. I thought the work-load and culture were very good, everybody was understanding of situations and it is very flexible in terms of in-office and remote working.
Yes
It is a strong company to work for, with a great hold in the Diesel engine industry and developing themselves into a new power leader. The company culture is good, with plenty of opportunities to develop yourself. The help and training you can receive is exceptional and I believe this is a great place to work!
