    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The first few months of my placement I was given little support however the department was down an engineer due to cutbacks in the company leading one engineer to fulfill a role that would usually take two as well as having myself to support. Since there has been a second engineer I had much more support with any tasks I was struggling with as well as further tasks to complete on their behalf.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The general working atmosphere at Cummins is great, where some companies have switched employment to a hybrid work scheme, Cummins has the majority of their workforce on site Monday to Friday. This is something I very much appreciated as it allowed me to get to know faces and who I should ask for what if I am in need of any information, as opposed to sending a faceless email.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed Cummins the more and more I was there. The earlier months consisted of me sat at my desk absorbing information like a sponge but once I had that base knowledge I felt I could be a lot more involved in some of the work discussions that took place in my department. However on some days where it was quiet I felt as though I had occasionally wasted days where I had nothing to do and others were completing much more long term projects which I only gained 6 months in
