Overview
Over the course of a month I could be given a part to test, this would be followed by developing a test plan for how to carry out the project. I would then work on setting up the part for testing followed by testing. After the test would be office days to analyse and understand the results to present.
Skills
Practical Skills; Report Writing; Greater Mechanical Understanding;
Responsibilities
Large responsibilities to design and run simulations on the engine design. Trusted to be able to develop an accurate simulation model and run accurate tests to collect accurate data. Whilst always having help available when required.
Support & Guidance
Very easy to seek help with people in the team; only limitation was frequency of other colleagues working from home limiting relationship building and ease of contact.
Culture
Quite friendly from my point of view; have heard negative experiences/ stories from others but all positive towards me.
Your Impressions
Really enjoyed it, great experience and lots of positives. Have heard more negative aspects from other students in different jobs however.
Yes
Make sure you speak to line manager ahead of acceptance to fully understand exactly what the job role entails and is exactly what you want. Similarly don't rule a job out because the job description doesn't necessarily correlate to exact desires - you won't know unless you speak to someone who does.
