Overview
Anything to do with current products at Cummins Emissions Solutions. So answering customer queries, working to fix ongoing problems, working to reduce costs and supporting testing and validation teams. Product Problem Solving (PPS) projects only come in when there's a problem and they are likely to complex to be assigned to you so you'll only be supporting with these. Most things day to day are not very technical and you'll speak to and rely on other specialists for these.
Skills
Developing my communication skills has been the biggest development. The role involves working and speaking with lots of different people across different countries, mainly America and the Netherlands and Germany. I've also developed a clearer understanding of part drawings and how parts need to be adapted to suit manufacture.
Responsibilities
I'd say I've given a reasonable amount of responsibility. I've been trusted with answering almost all customer queries without them being checked by my manager. But more complex things are kept to the more experienced team mainly because I lack experience and technical knowledge in the field.
Support & Guidance
Guidance and support has been great. My managers (mine changed halfway so I've had two) have been really open to hearing my feelings and what I want to take out of this placement. They've been really knowledgeable and helpful in finding and setting up training sessions with other teams that I'm interested in.
Culture
Company culture is extremely inclusive, almost too much. But the company is super welcoming and everyone is very helpful and open to help or to just chat.
Your Impressions
On the whole its been a very valuable experience and I've enjoyed it on the whole. Just the role is not for me. I don't feel my brain is stretched technically enough. The work generally is somewhat mundane and not challenging intellectually enough for me. But if I liked more customer support then I'd enjoy the placement much more.
Yes
Be open that there are loads of roles at Cummins for placements to choose from. It's just a matter of choosing what you're most interested in.
