The Role
I was given the opportunity to develop a project that is now being used by my department as a tool for discovering new medicines!
My original team was quite small, and over the year we have added more members to the team and we all help each other with our work and make suggestions to how our work can be improved.
My supervisor and manager have been great. They have always been there to answer my questions (even the silly ones!) and really inspired me to have a career in research and development.
Some days I would be very busy with lab work, others I would have an office day writing up experiments but overall my workload was manageable.
After being under closer supervision at the start of the year during my training, I am now routinely conducting my own experiments and reporting my data back to my supervisor and making suggestions for what experiments we should be trying next.
I have developed so many laboratory and data analysis skills that will be transferrable into almost any laboratory environment and will be a great assest for my university dissertation. I have also developed into a confident public speaker.
The Company
Our office was always very quiet, however there was a variety of people from different groups so you often found out information from elsewhere in the department.
My placement was very well organised, I have had a great year!
My supervisor gave me many opportunites to present my work and develop into a confident research scientist.

Above 25 days holiday
There are no graduate programmes specific to biology research and development, however I have made academic research group links.
The Culture
Having a lot of students on site meant that there were a lot of social activities at evenigns and weekends, and as a department of 13 students, we all met up regularly both inside and outside of work.
Stevenage is a relatively cheap town to live in, but was close enough to London to be able to and enjoy a better social scene.
There was one club....
I played netball outside of work, and since i was already involved in other sporting activities at home I chose to research opportunites in Stevenage that i could take part in before i arrived.
