Overview
I am the one who does all of the 3D CAD modelling for my team. I work on floor plans on AutoCAD and then mark them out on the shop floor. I do a little bit of maintenance such as filling holes on the shop floor and putting up/ taking down A Safe.
Skills
I have developed my CAD skills, I already had a few years experience with SolidWorks however I have been able to use new tools on it and improve my skills at it. I have learnt how to use Power BI, I had no experience of this before working at Cummins however I am now very proficient in it.
Responsibilities
I started with not having many responsibilities however as I learnt the job role better I gained more responsibilities such as creating floor plans, designing any parts people needed designing or 3D printing. I am also in control of the MCR (manufacturing change request) process.
Support & Guidance
I gained quite a lot of support and guidance when I have been learning new things however when I gained more experience I was able to complete task's without the need of support.
Culture
It has been very friendly and welcoming to me and other placement students here.
Your Impressions
I have very much enjoyed working here and given the chance would like to return here after I finish university.
Yes
It's not like many other engineering companies and it has its own way of doing things. It will take a little bit of time to learn but you will always get support and it is very enjoyable to work here. If you have skills in one area try to show them off to gain more responsibilities for the work you like however try to learn new things.
