The Role
I generally enjoyed my placement but by the time I had got about 3/4 of the wasy through, the time started to drag as it became rather samey.
The people I wirked with were always very pleased and thankful for the work I did
Help was generally available when I needed it.
The work came in fits and starts and this meant that some weeks I was left with little to do. This was particularly tedious if it coincided with people on my team being way from the office so there was no one to ask for more work
The level of responsibility I was given did increase through the year
I think the general priciples of being able to learn new thing quickly and the communication skills developed will be more useful than specific technical skills learnt
The Company
The office had a nice relaxed atmosphere although people often worked from home (which I was not able to do) so some days the office would be rather empty and quiet.
The workflow was too erratic and periods of little work could have been managed better. The admisistration of pay and holiday was done by an external company (the first time they had done it this way) and their organisation and communication with us was very poor.
Most of the skills I learn were on the job, I did not have much chance to do formal training.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The company is not recruting graduates in the area I worked in. The graduate schemes of other potenially interesting areas require a level of felxibility in location which I cannot commit to. Also, I believe the indudsty is in decline rather than growth and they are always looking to recruit experienced people rather than traniees
The Culture
Around 100 placement student at the site so frequent evening/weekend event were arranged to suit all tastes
A little more expensive that what I was used to at university but still reasonable
Not much choice
It's entirely up to you
