    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The programme was very well organised. We had breakfast in the morning at the hotel (which was generously covered by the firm for up to 3 nights- regardless of travel distance), then walked to the office. The programme was mostly talks, with some more interactive activities and workshops. There were plenty of opportunities to talk to trainees, but not really to more senior members of the firm. There was a social at a darts club on one evening (with unlimited drinks and food). All in all, a fantastic scheme.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, they were very clear about the differences between each of the firm's practice groups. The practice group roundtable activity meant we moved around different lawyers from different practice groups and learnt about each section of the business. There were also talks on application tips and personal branding (though this one was probably less useful).

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Generally very friendly and welcoming. The Early Careers team were very high energy and (slightly strangely) there was always really upbeat music playing in the auditorium. Trainees were friendly and offered to give help at any point in the future.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was definitely really enjoyable - there were lots of people to meet (there were 70 of us), and it was easy to meet them. We were assigned different tables on each day and there were plenty of networking opportunities at lunches and breaks. The social on the first evening was also fun.
