Overview
Reviewing retail and corporate finance proposals for new and used vehicles from across the VW group retail network including Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat/CUPRA, Audi, Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini. In addition to this, supporting phone queries from retailers improving the customer journey. I was also given the chance to join the Financial Crime Unit to aid the fight against fraud and money money laundering.
Skills
Understanding credit file analysis and affordability for different companies and individuals. Understanding how money laundering defences and fraud systems can minimise the loss to the company. Corporate communication behaviour such as teams and email best practice. Microsoft Excel has also been a big part of my operations and has helped to develop my skills
Responsibilities
Within the underwriting department, after detailed and monitored training as well as a marked exam, I was given the responsibility to underwrite proposals up to £50k. Within the fraud team, after another 2 month training period I was able to monitor and analyse many proposals with no limit to the amount of capital that was lent against the customer.
Support & Guidance
Constant support was always encouraged whenever I came across a problem no matter what department or situation I was in. Always surrounded by experienced colleagues that had years of experience within the industry that were always available whether that was in person or across teams/email.
Culture
Open and support between teams members with many social spaces to enjoy on breaks and lunch. However always pushed to improve and develop skills to gain the most from the placement as we can.
Your Impressions
Exceeded all expectations and changed the type of financial analysis I want to pursue in my career. Without the opportunities that I was given the chance to take, I would never have considered financial crime as a potential career. It is now the path that I am going to take after graduation.
