Overview
The programme was 4 days long. The first day contained a series of talk about the firm and its various divisions, as well as training on how to read the Financial Times. Day 2 contained a more detailed overview of each division within IB, as well as a case study for each. On Day 3, we completed the AmplifyMe IPO Simulation. This began with a quick overview of IPOs, followed by an individual task on Excel with a DCF model. We then split into groups, preparing a roadshow presentation and presented these to the rest of the cohort and a Jefferies panel. The last day was an interview with a member of Jefferies, providing the opportunity to convert the Spring Week to a Summer Internship.
Skills
I certainly feel as though I developed my skills. Day 3 was particularly useful as it was very hands-on. We developed our Excel skills and gained experience in looking at a 3-statement model. We also developed our presentation skills, both from a preparation and public speaking perspective, in a team-based scenario. This allowed us to build on a talk from the previous day, which was about how to build the perfect stock pitch, which we adapted for the roadshow.
Business Insight
It was very useful - we got insights into Mergers & Acquisitions, Debt Capital Markets and Equity Capital Markets, and even some insight into Equity Research and Equity Sales and Trading, which were the other two programmes running at the same time.
Culture
The company culture was fantastic - everyone at the company was very approachable and more than happy to answer questions. The atmosphere, whilst highly professional, was also very amicable and encouraged each person to be themselves.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed the insight - I came away feeling that I met lots of fantastic people, I had developed my skills and that I had gained a better understanding of what a career in Investment Banking might look like. The most enjoyable part was the AmplifyMe Simulation - although this was intense and stressful, I felt as though I had achieved a lot in a short space of time by the end of the day.
Yes
Ensure that you are well prepared for the online test, as this is your opportunity to stand out and be invited to interview. The video interview is with someone working in IB at Jefferies but is quite relaxed - make sure to let your personality come through and be prepared to explain your motivation to enter Investment Banking.
