Overview
Since my role is account management, the majority of my day revolves around the needs of the business I am supporting. But it can range from general queries, to ordering new vehicles, to amending vehicle orders and so on. I am also there to support my team with any work they may not have time to do, this can be as simple as providing customers with delivery details and as hard as financial reconciliation.
Skills
I have learnt how to approach tasks and projects in a more structured way. Working under my manager let me see how to approach business meetings and how to effectively take notes of the problems customers are facing to resolve them as swiftly as possible. I have also improved my Excel skills, and gotten more confident speaking in public and in formal business settings.
Responsibilities
Yes I have. Since my manager is dealing with multiple customers at once, she has given me the opportunity to solely focus on one customer in a bunch of different areas (day to day queries, vehicle ordering, fleet reporting etc.) There is a usual outline of what I am meant to do, but it is up to me and my critical thinking skills to determine what the best solution is for each specific problem.
Support & Guidance
I have received lots of support, any time I am struggling with anything I don't feel 'scared' to tell my manager as I know that they will help and support me no matter what the problem is. If I ever made a mistake, my manager would guide me in a constructive way to reinforce my confidence and make sure it does not happen again.
Culture
The company culture was one of my favourite things during my placement year. Everyone in the workplace is very nice and very supportive no matter what team they are on. The office is great as well, with an open space to work in. Outside of work, I would often play football with employees from the wider business, and was welcomed with open arms, which further reinforces the culture.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement experience overall. Obviously there were times of lots of stress, but it allowed me to come out stronger and more confident on what to do when faced with challenges.
Yes
Be yourself in the interview, do some research on the business before hand, see what initiatives VWFS is currently undertaking to be fully prepared. Look at the values, see if you associate with them.
