Overview
The programme contained a great mix of presentations introducing the different business divisions and hands-on collaborative group projects. We also had the opportunity to develop deeper connections with our 'buddies' who were analysts in Rothschild & Co's London office. Personally, I also found the work shadowing activity the most insightful and fascinating. My group was very fortunate to shadow an associate in Rothschild's mining sector team. He took the time to take us to his desk and introduce everyone in his team to us. The analysts in his team also took some time to explain to my group what they are working on.
Skills
The greatest skill that I have developed over this week was networking. The spring insight week is essentially a four day long networking event. Ensuring a well charged social battery is therefore very important for this programme. There are so many amazing opportunities to socialise with your spring cohort as well as the employees at Rothschild. I arranged three meetings with analysts and associates across the firm by simply reaching out over linkedin prior to the programme. Despite their busy schedule, they all made time for me which also goes to show how supportive the company culture is.
Business Insight
Despite the spring insight programme being geared specifically towards Rothschild & Co's Global Advisory business, we also gained great insights into their other business divisions such as wealth & asset management, five arrows and arrowpoint advisory. This definitely opened up my eyes to the diverse types of roles that Rothschild & Co can offer.
Culture
The company culture is where Rothschild & Co truly differentiates itself from the other financial institutions. The family nature of the firm is truly reflected in its employees and the company culture. All of the analysts and associates that I spoke to were incredibly interesting and kind people with diverse backgrounds. Despite merely being a spring intern, one of the analysts that I met up with took an entire hour to go through exactly what he had been working on during that day and explain to me the model that he was developing. The cohort of spring interns was also very supportive and truly made the experience very enjoyable.
Your Impressions
I tremendously enjoyed the spring insight programme. The culture within the spring cohort was very supportive and friendly. I was able to get insights into Rothschild & Co's different divisions and simultaneously establish connections with employees at the firm.
Yes
Take the necessary time when writing your cover letter and prepare well for all interview rounds because this is a spring insight week that you don't want to miss! Overall, I would suggest having a strong commercial awareness and understanding what makes Rothschild & Co unique compared to other banks. Try to also connect the firm's values to your own past experiences when answering why you want to do the spring week at Rothschild.
