    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • In the first week we spent time on assigned desks, getting to experience the day-to-day life of an analyst and contributing to work for the team. The second week involved internal and externally-provided training, as well as networking events throughout the two week programme. The training was across Global Markets and Investment Banking, with talks from professionals across sectors and opportunities to talk with them and learn more about their roles and Nomura’s business.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt a lot during the internship - from soft skills and communication workshops, which were extremely useful, to more technical skills from time on the desk. Everyone was extremely helpful and happy to answer questions, so I really felt like I learnt so much in a short space of time. There were case study examples and practices, and the sessions were a great open space and opportunity to identify knowledge gaps and where existing skills could be further developed.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Extremely interesting, everyone was very happy to network and talk more about their roles, there was a really open learning environment and I felt able to ask questions. The role opportunities were diverse and there was the opportunity to learn about an experience parts of all of them, and what sets Nomura apart.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was extremely supportive - we were assigned both a buddy and a mentor, from different teams. They were extremely helpful in setting up coffee chats and meetings to network with professionals from other areas of the business, all of whom were very generous with their time, explaining their roles, career paths and advice.
