Overview
Field incoming client briefs and utilize business acumen to find and recommend the most relevant experts for each project. Complete tasks across multiple projects quickly and under pressure and go the extra mile to impress your clients with proactivity and responsiveness. As well as undertake a placement project with the other students to research and solve a real business problem, presenting our solutions to a panel of senior company members.
Skills
My confidence in corporate understanding has increased massively, working closely with investment funds, consultancies, and Fortune 500s, as well as speaking to industry experts across multiple fields and geographies daily, giving me a much wider insight into the layout of the economy. This increased confidence has allowed me to run projects, lead sessions and take full autonomy of my work.
Responsibilities
Absolutely, this role allows me to make measurable contributions to the business unit’s revenue and take full autonomy of my work by finding and vetting experts myself, as well as taking full control of our placement project, running focus groups and creating/presenting a slide deck of solutions to a real-life business problem.
Support & Guidance
A great level of support is available with a week-long New Joiner Academy where you are trained alongside full-time associates, as well as weekly meetings with a trainer and manager to go through any technical and developmental points from that week. One of the key things I have noted from this placement is how receptive my colleagues have been to any questions I have about the placement specifically or my personal development.
Culture
There is a great atmosphere at AlphaSights where everyone is super friendly and sociable. Overall, the company is relatively young, so as a placement student you feel on the same level as the rest of your colleagues. Everyone is open to meeting new people - the culture is all about communication and collaboration. Hence, people are really happy to go for a coffee catch up and I have met so many new people from all over the world because of this.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement year so far and think it's a great opportunity to get introduced to the corporate world in a social environment. It's a great chance to learn more about different industries and work closely with high-calibre clients, as well as meet incredible people.
Yes
For the case study, don't worry too much about getting things wrong, but take on the feedback given and be open to adapting your approach and think how you would change things if you had the chance to do it again.
