Overview
While each day varied, typically schedule included sessions to learn more about the firm, Principal Work, Coffee Chats, and working in my project. There were also socials with the other Vacation Scheme Students, the team from the seat I was in, and my Trainee Buddy.
Skills
I have learnt lots of hard professionals skills (table drafting, document review, email composition) as well as soft skills such as confidence in the workplace. I’ve developed my teamwork skills through the client pitch with the other Vacation Scheme Students, as well as helping my Principal with his own matters.
Business Insight
It definitely developed my understanding on another level to what I had been able to garner from my own research. Practice areas gain a completely new light when explained by people in them and I am beginning to understand why different people go into different areas of law, beyond previous experience or personal interest.
Culture
The culture definitely lived up to expectations, and I was continually impressed by the willingness of people to discuss their work and experiences with me. It was encouraging to see that my initial impression was correct and that people at the firm genuinely were friendly and eager to help.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it. Even the challenges felt manageable and like they were there to help me develop, not to trick me. I felt like all of my experiences were genuine.
Yes
Believe in the firm, take every opportunity available to you, remember how short 2 weeks actually is!!
