Overview
The vacation scheme consisted of a combination of presentations on various practice areas and committees at the firm, and completing a research task reflecting the two practice areas you are sitting in over the two weeks.
Skills
I developed an understanding of how it is both legal knowledge and commercial understanding that makes a great lawyer, as you need to be able to adapt legal advice to what the client's key needs and concerns are. I developed my detail oriented and analytical thinking skills through researching and writing my memorandum.
Business Insight
It was great to see the range of potential practice areas to qualify in, and the strength of the practice areas, as it means that trainees will have a breadth of experience which will help them become well-rounded lawyers.
Culture
There was a very collaborative and collegiate culture, which is key because there is so much cross-practice and cross-office communication, necessary to complete work to the best standard possible for clients.
Your Impressions
It was a fantastic experience, allowing you to learn more about the firm and its growth, but also about the role of a commercial lawyer.
Yes
You should definitely apply, as you will learn about just how incredible the firm is, and gain incredible insight into what it is like to be a commercial lawyer at one of the best law firm's globally.
