The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, it offered an insight into the automotive world and enabled me to confirm my ambitions of being an engineer
My colleagues, even in other departments, always made me feel welcome. Friendly banter made the job a lot easier and enable me to feel comfortable.
Whenever I had an issue with work, the management and my colleagues were always there to assist. I was also assigned a 'mentor', that was away from my direct line of work, that enabled me to talk about any other issues, such as settling into the local area.
I always had plenty of work to do. On the rare occasions that I didn't, I was able to assist with some of my colleagues, on supplier audits or at the plant.
I was given a lot of responsibility, especially with reporting out the status of new projects to Europe in my self-created file, setting up meetings and also leading my own supplier audit.
The skills I have learned here, I will use in my final year and when I get into a full time job as an engineer. However, it is not only the working skills, but the personal skills that I have developed such as confidence, communication and professionalism will help me in all aspects of life.
The Company
With an open plan office, there are always jokes and banter flying about, although always kept to a professional level. Competitions such as the football prediction league are always ongoing
Very well. Information was always sent out on time and with so many placement students, everyone knew what was going on all of the time.
I was given a lot of responsibility, I was urged into all aspects of the business, with a range of work, from a project at the plant, a Logistics project, UK supplier work and investigation, business events, as well as my normal Supplier Quality Engineer duties. All of this gave my a huge growth in confidence, time keeping, professionalism and work ethic. I was also given the chance to travel to Poland, France and Germany with the company with all expenses paid.

To have a job with Vauxhall would be ideal and would give me the opportunity to realise my ambition of being an engineer in an automotive OEM. There are also a number of perks including a good starting salary, a compnay car, above 25 days holiday and working from home if required
The Culture
With over 80 undergraduates based at Vauxhall in Luton, the social scene for placement students is great. There is always something happening and always people about. The organised nights out to Watford and Milton Keynes are really good.
Theres plenty around the local area such as restaurants, pubs, bowling, cinema that are all of reasonable price. Usually get a discount for Liquid Envy working for Vauxhall too.
Luton is ok for a relatively cheap night out with the discount at Liquid Envy, but Milton Keynes and Watford are a much better bet. London is also only 30 mins by train and £10 with a railcard on the weekend for an all day tube pass.
Theres always activities to do outside of work, football, rugby, bowling, cinema. Theres also always something going on in London, which is a short train journey away
