Overview
I have daily discussions with members of my team to discuss the content and quality of technical or admin work I've been provided by others including various project principles and my line manager. My main responsibility includes completely high quality work in a reasonable time frame and professional manner
Skills
I've developed existing soft skills such as time management and organisation. Also, in my professional downtime I've come to better understand effective learning techniques that have helped me grasp various engineering skills or concepts that I'd yet to learn at university but needed to know in order to complete my work
Responsibilities
I was given reasonable responsibility. I was expected to complete technical work at the graduate level. And as I completed work related to project management, such as framework agreements, NEC contracts, cost projections etc I was given a greater level of responsibility as I was working closely along side experienced and high level members of management
Support & Guidance
I was given exemplary support and guidance and I knew it was there as soon as I asked. The learning tools provided to learn new concepts were understanding. However my access to project work was extremely limited so I while I used my time to learn concepts I was hardly given the opportunity to put these concepts into practice and apply them to real scenarios
Culture
The team created a relaxed and welcoming environment in the office where I was able to learn/work how, where (office or home) and when I wanted. However, when it came to seeking project work various members of the team seemed reluctant to add me to a project and if they did it was for admin work rather than to gain technical experience
Your Impressions
Over all I enjoyed my time. My biggest issue was the disjoined pace at which I received project work, I spend at least 80% of my time not on projects and when I did receive project work it was for 3 different projects over a short span of time. When not on a project I utilised my time learning, this allowed m to go at my own pace and learn what interested me
Yes
Always work on widening your technical knowledge as it helps create confidence when tackling new project work or an interview etc
