Overview
Sat in seats of IP and CRT. Completed tasks based on and for real cases. Assisted associates, trainees, paralegals and partners with their tasks. Attended events put on by HSF such as diversity networks, partner networking, business development. Attended socials put on by the firm. At least 2 of these things occurred each day.
Skills
Have a better insight as to what working in law is like. Learnt a lot about HSF and their values. Learnt more about CRT, which was a practice area I had not considered before. Had a better idea of what the path throughout law can look like. Developed my legal writing skills and networking skills.
Business Insight
We had a lot of exposure to different employees and roles of the firm. This ranged from assistants to executive partners. We also had different talks such as business development, which enabled us to see the firm from different angles.
Culture
The culture was very positive. Everyone was friendly and willing to help. Everyone was approachable. Teamwork is clearly very central to the firm. The atmosphere of the scheme was enjoyable, but it did feel a little tense at times.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. It was very useful and affirmed that this is a job I would love to do. It is very intense, but it really does give you a good insight to what the role entails and what it is like working at HSF.
Yes
Try and relax, be yourself. Be social- talk to people and smile! If other candidates on the scheme make you feel uncomfortable, move away and just focus on yourself.
