Overview
- All days began with a talk that was an introduction to a practice area, delivered by partners or an associate - During the afternoon and evening you would spend time with your trainer (usually a senior associate) in the chosen department doing live work - Beginning and end of the week were bookended with case study competition intros and then presentation and judging
Skills
Mileage will vary by participant here - I would have liked to spend more time in the actual department to get more of a feel for the hands-on work. I found it very insightful and useful but wouldn't say I developed skills per se.
Business Insight
Very insightful - plenty of time dedicated to both formal and informal conversations around understanding the business and the role of a trainee.
Culture
Exceptional - everyone I met from trainees to associates to partners to HR and support staff seemed to go above and beyond to make sure people on the scheme felt welcomed. Plenty of people took time out to speak to me which I really appreciated and overall I got an excellent impression of the company culture and atmosphere - everyone seemed incredibly friendly, cooperative, supportive and collaborative.
Your Impressions
Thoroughly enjoyed it - really informative sessions, great atmosphere in the firm, great social sessions, and everyone seemed well prepared to host vac schemers.
Yes
- All the typical caveats in applying to law apply here. Focus on why you / why law / why this firm. - Be able to demonstrate clear and distinct traits of the firm and how they align with your own personal traits. - Be yourself.
