Overview
I handle the documentation of permits, hot works and work requests provided by/ for contractors onsite. I review daily the programme for monitoring the work requests being placed on a site wide level and handle the delegation of each request. I am involved in some project work with the wider team which allows me to get a better understanding of company codes and morale.
Skills
I have been able to advance my skills with CAD programs such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks for the development of the site asset drawings. I have a secondment with the Advanced Engineering team (as I had asked for more engineering based experiences as my background is Mechanical Engineering) and I have been able to develop my presentation skills infront of a large audience, trained on engineering softwares, development of new technologies and products etc.
Responsibilities
I had been given responsibility over documentation with the facilities team and with the engineering team I had been able to create my own data for a persistent problem which gave me ownership of the document and able to present to the wider team.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from the wider team when it came to jobs that I needed to get on with and found them all very helpful and insightful.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere was quite welcoming and 'judgement free' in many aspects as I felt like I could ask as many questions and I wouldnt be made to feel silly.
Your Impressions
I had not had the best experience when it comes to my personal development with the Facilites team however that was turned around as I got more experience with the Advanced Engineering team.
Yes
Please research your job role and ensure that it is something you can get experience from - although it is hard to know your line manager beforehand, I believe having a good manager really sets the tone for your placement experience.
